Affinity Groups

At Washington Elementary, we believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Our Affinity Groups provide opportunities for families with shared identities or experiences to connect, build community, celebrate culture, and support one another.

Affinity Groups help foster belonging for students and families while creating spaces where people can share experiences, organize events, and strengthen our school community. Whether you're looking to meet other families, celebrate your heritage, advocate for your community, or simply connect with others who share similar experiences, there's a place for you.

Participation is always welcome and optional, and families are encouraged to join whichever group(s) feel meaningful to them.

Current Affinity Groups

Southwest Asian & North Africa (SWANA) Family Group

A space for families with roots in Southwest Asia and North Africa to connect, celebrate cultural traditions, and build community at Washington.

Asian & Pacific Islander Family Group

Bringing together families with Asian and Pacific Islander heritage to celebrate cultures, support one another, and foster connections across our school community.

Black/African American Family Group

A welcoming community for Black and African American students, families, and caregivers to connect, celebrate, and support one another while helping ensure every student feels seen and valued.

XSpecial Families

A group for families of students with 504 Plans, IEPs, disabilities, neurodivergence, or other support needs. XSpecial Families provides opportunities to share resources, build community, and support one another as we work toward an inclusive school experience for every child.

Rainbow Families

A welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ students, families, caregivers, and allies to connect, celebrate, and help foster an inclusive and affirming school community.

Multiracial Family Group

A community for multiracial students and families to connect with others who share similar experiences, celebrate identity, and build relationships across our diverse school.

Latine/x Family Group

A space for Latine/x families to celebrate culture, build connections, support one another, and strengthen the Washington community together.

Get Connected

The PTA hosts quarterly Equity Family Nights, bringing families together for an evening of dinner, connection, and meaningful conversation within our affinity groups. These gatherings provide a welcoming space to build relationships, celebrate our diverse community, and share experiences.

Throughout the rest of the school year, Affinity Groups also organize social gatherings, cultural celebrations, community-building activities, and other opportunities to connect. Families are welcome to participate in one or multiple groups, and new ideas, volunteers, and members are always encouraged.
